In its 19th year, Essence Girls Basketball (EGB) Program has produced a platform for over 200 young ladies to receive athletic scholarships for basketball helping pay for their education. It has always been our goal to teach young women to use basketball as a vehicle for higher education.

Essence has been apart of Nike Youth Elite Basketball for 9 years, 1 of only 10 Gold Star Nike programs in the country and the only Gold Star Nike program in the State of Florida. Recently, Nike has expanded to 32 teams to create the Nike EYBL for girls, same as the boys, showcasing some of the best female basketball players on 1 platform.

Two seasons ago, all of the teams showed extreme resilience. The Girls Nike EYBL was introduced with great reception across the country.  A very young Essence EYBL team hit the circuit with great challenges. They not only fought hard, learned the game, and played against all odds, they were able to come together, they not only qualified for Nike Nationals at the last seed (#24) but continued to grow as a team made it out of pool play to finish in the Elite Eight of the Silver bracket.

For 2015, the season was another exciting basketball experience. Essence brought home Championships from AAU Spring Fling, Capital Cool, Basketball on the Bayou, Garden City, and a Final 4 Silver Nike Nationals with the final accomplishment for our young ladies once again receiving scholarships offers from all over the United States. To date, 11 of our 15 seniors have signed full athletic scholarships. The remaining seniors have be receiving interests as well from schools across the country and will sign their scholarships in the spring.

It was an honor and pleasure to have 3 young ladies invited: Nadia Fingall (u18), Maya Dodson (u17), Rennia Davis (u17) and 1 application accepted to attend: Zakiyah Franklin (u17).  All of the young ladies played well and had a great experience. The future is bright.

Congrats Maya Dodson on Making USA u17 Olympic Team

It was a complete honor to be selected for the 2nd Annual Brand Jordan Girls All-American Game. It was an experience that will never be forgotten because I got to share it with one of my own, Nadia Fingall.

2016 was one of our most successful years at Boo Williams. We had 1 team go 4 and 1, and 3 teams to go 3 and 1. That is an awesome showing and looking forward to another great year for Essence.

Not a bad weekend. Co-Championships for the 11th grade Division (Purple and Black made it to the Championship Game). 10th Grade Runner-Up. 9th Grade Final Four 9th Grade D2 Final Four
